What a shame, what a sham. So, now the BBC is being forced to limit its success in order to prop up the failing commercial media sector. Read the Times of London piece.
You can hear the conversation among the commercial media mafia chiefs as they lament the good ole days and make this desperate effort to pressure the British politicos into knocking off their biggest competitor.
Keep in mind, that the BBC competes for share of audience, not share of ad spending. In other words, the BBC has been so successful in attracting audience through quality programming and content, that the commercial chiefs feel the pinch.
Did commercial media invest in quality programming and content for the past few decades? Or did they produce mediocre stuff and maximize the ad side for growth and obscene profits?
Let's hope this nonsense doesn't spread to the US where the government already subsidizes commercial media to an estimated tune of $50 billion a year and public media less than 1% of that figure.
